Secret Santa with a Difference

Thank you so much to all of the Turama students who did some extra jobs at home or donated some of their pocket money to our Secret Santa with a Difference. We collected $113 and here are the gifts that we are donating to the Salvation Army for them to give to some children in need in Nelson. Well done to all you wonderful Secret Santas of Turama! Merry Xmas everyone!

Today our whole school sang Xmas carols to people in our community to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Big Day Out at Rabbit Island

We had an awesome day at Rabbit Island last Friday! Thanks so much to everyone who provided transport and spent the day with us. The kids did a few different house competitions which were heaps of fun, especially getting wet and sandy down on the beach!

Maths - Striving for Excellence together

For the last two weeks we have all been supporting each other in Turama to meet our learning goals in Number Knowledge. It's been amazing to see students taking more ownership of their learning by setting their own goals and tasks, and seeking help from each other or the teachers if required. One Year 5 student asked if he could take a group lesson on rounding decimals - how awesome is that!? And he did a great job too! Many others decided to teach a buddy something that they had just learned themselves, which helped the student tutor to get that knowledge firmly into their long term memory. We have had many "WOW" moments! What a privilege to teach such awesome kids!

Jack's Xmas Tree Feast

Thanks Jack for making us a Xmas tree that we could eat! The shortbread and icing were delicious!

Christmas Art

We spent Wednesday morning making Xmas art. We got to make four different pieces of art:  a star decoration for our Xmas tree; a reindeer decoration; potato printmaking art; and a finger painted Xmas tree. It was lots of fun creating these Xmas artworks. Thanks so much to Sandy who was our amazing parent helper, running the star station - you are a STAR Sandy!

Book Clubs

Our students are all in Book Clubs for Reading. They chose a novel that they wanted to read and became part of that book club. Each Book Clubs meets and decides where they will read up to individually, then they meet as a group to discuss and respond to parts of the text. Students must fill out a preparation sheet before attending each meeting and reflect on their participation after each meeting. Students self-manage their book club, with one person in each group taking a leadership role, making sure all students are ready and participate equally. Book Clubs are a wonderful part of our literacy programme.
