Making Connections through collaborative writing

This week the Turama students have been getting to know each other even better. Students were partnered up and given the task to find out as much as they could about each other and write notes onto their speech plan. Next they will be writing and presenting mini speeches about their partner. The aim is for us to make further connections to each other's interests and lives.  We have already found out that Sarah used to be in the NZ marching team! I think she needs to give us all a demo of her marching skills, don't you?  See more pictures on the WRITING page of this blog.

Jump Jam for Star Jam

Yesterday the whole school took part in Star Jam where everyone did Jump Jam for an hour in their house groups. The fabulous Year 6 Ramaroa students were our leaders and everyone jumped up and down and boogied to the left and right, trying to keep in time to the music and follow the routines. It was heaps of fun and what fantastic exercise!

Music Showcase

The music showcase last Friday night was outstanding! It was so great to see our students who are learning instruments performing in front of an audience. They were very brave! And how awesome was the new school band?!

Making Connections Before School

We are loving all the connections the Turama students are making to each other before school each day. While playing cooperative games they are building stronger relationships with each other and there is a lot of social learning going on at the same time, eg taking turns, being patient, helping each other, teaching someone else how to play a game, learning to be a good winner and loser, etc.

Miniatures

What better way to spend a rainy day than creating your own wonderland! Turama was a buzz of activity today while the students continued working on their miniatures. It's so great to see their Creative lights shining bright! Students are helping each other out and sharing things they don't have a use for. Here's a snapshot of what they have been up to so far...
Xavier even linked what we are learning in Theme about circuits to his miniature and created a working light to make his fire look like it was glowing!
